The new Sony X900F with full array local dimming will start at $1100 for a 49-inch model, whereas the edge-lit X850F will start at $2000 for a 65-inch model.
Sony 2018 LCD
Sony will in spring 2018 release a new high-end LCD in the form of X900F (XF90 in Europe). It will be available in 49, 55, 65, and 75 inch sizes with 4K resolution and Dolby Vision support.
- “The X900F 4K HDR Ultra HD TVs will support Dolby Vision via a firmware update to be delivered later this year. And to bring sound to the next level, the X900F series is designed perfectly to match Sony’s new Dolby Atmos® sound bar, the HT-X9000F,” the company said
Like last year’s 90 series, X900F features a full array local dimming backlight. In our testing, we have found FALD to be a minimum requirement on LCD TVs for reproducing HDR video. X900F will also be equipped with Sony’s ‘X1 Extreme’ processor, which is the company’s most powerful processor at the moment.
The X850F is series of mid-range 4K LCD TVs based on the less powerful X1 processor. These TVs do not employ full array local diming so they are unlikely to excel in HDR. X850F will be available in 55, 65, and 75 inch sizes.
Pricing for Europe has yet to be revealed and pricing for the 2018 A8F OLED has yet to be revealed in any region.
All of the new Sony TVs will feature Google’s Android TV platform that offers access to a range of apps, including Amazon, Netflix, YouTube, and Hulu. Google Assistant works via microphone button on the remote or through a separate device such as Google Home. In addition, the TVs support Amazon Alexa.
The new Sony LCD TV ranges will be available from Amazon and Best Buy soon.
