Sony’s 2018 OLED TVs are now available for pre-order. A8F will be available in 55 and 65-inch sizes starting at $2800 dollars in the US.
Sony A8F OLED
Last year’s A1 OLED will carry over into 2018 and Sony will be adding the A8F OLED to expand its line-up of TVs based on the self-emitting display technology. While many had expected A8F to be cheaper than A1, that will in fact not be the case.
- “Sony Electronics, Inc. announced pricing and availability details today for the 65” and 55” class A8F BRAVIA OLED series. These models will be available for pre-sale today at major Sony authorized retailers including Amazon and Best Buy,” the company announced.
55-inch A8F will cost $2800 while the 65-inch version will set you back $3800. For comparison, Sony’s A1 is currently selling for $2800 and $3500, respectively.
A8F is more or less technically identical to A1. The only significant difference is in design. Sony explains that A8F has the ‘Acoustic Surface’ audio system with two bass units rather than one in A1 but that audio quality is comparable. It also features 4K resolution, Android TV, the X1 Extreme processor, and support for HDR. Dolby Vision will be added through a firmware update “later this year”.
- “The new A8F BRAVIA OLED TVs feature an all-new one slate design curated to look beautiful wherever the TV may rest. The enhanced design makes it easy to mount the TV even closer to the wall, and the redesigned vertical stand disappears when placed on TV stands or entertainment centers,” the company said.
Sony has not confirmed when A8F (AF8 in Europe) will start shipping other than saying that it will be “available soon”. It can be pre-ordered from Sony authorized retailers including Amazon.com and Best Buy.
