Sonos will unveil its new home theater speaker on June 6

Sonos has sent out invitations for a press event on June 6 in San Francisco (via The Verge), accompanied by a photo showing several remote controls and the text “You’re better than this”.

Powered by HDMI CEC?

Lots of information about Sonos’ new “mini soundbar” or “home theater smart speaker” has already leaked out via FCC and a person who claims to be a former employee.

Sonos has now sent out official invitations for a press event on June 6. The graphics on the invitation makes it obvious that we should expect a home theater product. The photo shows a table littered with classic remote controls under the headline “You’re better than this”, which clearly refers to the clutter.

The FCC documents confirm that the new product will feature an HDMI port so we can probably expect some kind of HDMI CEC implementation that will allow the new Sonos soundbar to control a TV via the HDMI connection – even turn the TV on and off. We will learn more on June 6 so stay tuned.
