Philips OLED903 leaked by iF Design Award ahead of time

22 Jun 2018 | Rasmus Larsen |

Besides OLED803, TP Vision will launch a Philips OLED903 model with an integrated soundbar. The yet-to-be-announced product was leaked on the iF Design Award webpage.

More Philips OLED TVs incoming

When we met Philips in Amsterdam earlier this year, the company announced the OLED803, OLED873, and OLED973 but nothing was said regarding an OLED903. The company apparently wanted to announce it at a later date but the secret has been spoiled by iF Design Award.

- ”The 2018 903 OLED is designed to provide ultimate picture quality combined with a high-end audio reproduction. This minimalist TV design delivers on the Philips promise of innovation through European design quality where top-of-the-range technology is housed in a design that subtly yet clearly communicates the highest performance,” the website said.

If you study the picture more closely, you will notice that there is no Philips logo on the frame as it has been moved to the left foot. The same is true for the upcoming OLED803 that was unveiled this spring. OLED903 appears, based on the picture, to largely resemble OLED803 except for the built-in soundbar.

Earlier this week, Philips and Bowers & Wilkins announced a partnership to bring B&W speakers to Philips TVs but it is not clear if OLED903 has any connection to those efforts.

Additionally, the pictures from iF Design Award reveal that OLED903 will come bundled with a “stick” remote control. The description text confirms that it will feature 3-sided Ambilight, the Android TV operating system, and voice control. It will be available in 55 and 65-inch sizes.

Not the first time

This is not the first time that iF Design Award has leaked an unannounced Philips TV. Back in 2015, the organization leaked two Philips TV ranges.

The Philips OLED903 model has been online on iF’s website since March 2018, as noted by Italian HDblog but it was not until Philips and B&W announced a partnership earlier this year that we started digging again. FlatpanelsHD spotted the first references to OLED903 in November 2017 after it was leaked in the WiFi Alliance’s database.

TP Vision, who is responsible for Philips TV in Europe, has yet to confirm the existence of OLED903 but it is unlikely that iF would honor an imaginary product with one of its awards. We expect to learn more about the new 9 series flagship TV at the IFA show in Berlin that kicks off on August 31.
