The ‘Gallery’ mode that was introduced with the 2018 OLED TVs is coming to LG’s 2018 LCD TVs this year. LG also announced a partnership with Tripadvisor to include seasonal photos from around the world.
Gallery mode on LG 2018 OLED & LCD
LG imagines that users will enjoy the beautiful landscapes and pictures whenever the TV is not in use. The Gallery mode already offered a handful of photos and through a partnership with Tripadvisor users will get access to an additional 50 pictures – with more to come.
LG also confirmed that the Gallery mode is being expanding to its 2018 “Super UHD” LCD TVs, meaning the SKxxx models.
- “First featured in LG OLED TVs, Gallery mode will be included in LG’s premium SUPER UHD TVs starting this year. An assortment of spring, summer, fall and winter landscapes will transport LG TV owners to the most popular and spectacular places in the world according to Tripadvisor,” the company said.
LG explains that the images can be accessed through voice commands such as “show me cool summer in Gallery”. The pictures are accompanied by music – either LG’s choice or your own music, which can be selected from the LG Sound Sync app.
Only summer images will be available from Tripadvisor at this time but LG notes that “fall and winter images will be updated in the upcoming seasons”.
These types of TV uses are seemingly growing in popularity. Last year, Samsung launched ‘The Frame’, which is a TV that doubles as a digital picture frame. Apple is also featuring impressive slow-motion 4K HDR videos as screensavers on the Apple TV 4K. LG clearly sees an opportunity to position its latest OLED and LCD TVs as more than just regular TVs.
