Samsung launches 'The Sero' vertical TV for millennials

No, it is no longer April 1st. Samsung has today launched 'The Sero', a TV that can be rotated between vertical and horizontal format.

Earlier this month, FlatpanelsHD published an April Fools' Day joke about TV makers abandoning the horizontal TVs in favor of vertical screens. Less than a month has passed and Samsung has now announced a concept that largely resembles this. 'The Sero' has been unveiled in South Korea as a real product that joins the company's range of lifestyle TVs, which also comprises The Frame and Serif TV. The screen is vertical and the product has been designed for the Millennial generation of young people who have grown up with smartphones in vertical format.

- "Samsung Electronics analyzed the characteristics of the Millennial generation, which is familiar with mobile content, and presented a new concept TV 'The Vertical', which is based on the vertical screen, unlike the conventional TV," Samsung explained. It is possible to mirror a smartphone screen to the TV and to display other types of content in vertical format. It is also possible to display two pictures on top of each other in vertical format. The TV can be flipped to horizontal mode for movies and TV programs in regular widescreen format.

- "Samsung Electronics has been continuously introducing innovative products that define TV as an industry leader for years," said Han Jong-hee, president of Samsung's video display business. "From now on, I will open the era. " The TV is also equipped with a 4.1 channel audio system with a combined output of 40W. Samsung says that the speakers double as a music system when the screen is not in use. Samsung The Sero will launch in South Korea in May. A 43-inch model will cost around $1600 dollars.
