Sony's new high-end UBP-X1100ES UHD Blu-ray player that was unveiled in April is now available in the US for $600 and in Europe for around €800. It supports Dolby Vision.
A new flagship
Sony is launching a new flagship UHD Blu-ray player that is "delivering an unprecedented home cinema experience". It will join the more affordable X700 and X800M2 models in the company's line-up.
- "We strive to provide our home viewer with content that matches the creator's intent, and the latest addition to our Blu-ray player lineup reflects that mission," said Mike Fasulo, president and COO, Sony NA. "No matter what content is playing on the UBP-X1100ES, it's equipped to provide a theater-level experience every time."
UBP-X1100ES adheres to the UHD Blu-ray specification, which ensures base support for 4K and HDR10. In addition, it supports discs in Dolby Vision HDR and video content in HLG HDR. There is no support for Samsung's HDR10+ format. Sony also highlighted support for Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and High-Resolution audio (when wired) as well as streaming apps for Netflix and YouTube.
Besides UHD Blu-ray discs, X1100ES will spin your HD Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray, DVD, DVD Audio, Super Audio CD, and CDs. In April 2019, Sony referred to it as the "the ultimate disc drive". It is also equipped with two HDMI outputs.
The player is "made from quality materials for improved sound quality, the Heat Sink and Disk Drive keep your discs and the chassis of the UBP-X1100ES cool, for extended viewing hours, boxset after boxset".
Sony is releasing its new flagship player just as Panasonic, its main competitor in the field, is launching a more affordable player with support for both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision.
