The new Xbox dashboard will no longer feature tabs across the top in an effort to streamline the cluttered home screen. Microsoft will also remove its voice assistant Cortana.

A new Xbox dashboard

Microsoft is currently "experimenting with a streamlined user interface" with Xbox beta testers. If the company decides to roll it out to everyone, it will be yet another dashboard redesign on Xbox One. The new dashboard no longer features tabs across the top. Instead these screens can be accessed by clicking the buttons below the 'Resume' window, which lets you quickly resume your last game. Recently played games also feature more prominently on the home screen. Microsoft says that it is built for speed.

- "Based on your valuable feedback, we’ve been continuing to iterate on two key experiences on Xbox, delivering you a faster Home experience and evolving the way we support Xbox voice commands to improve the voice experience," said Bradley Rossetti, Xbox Insider Team Lead. Furthermore, Microsoft will remove Cortana integration, meaning that Cortana voice commands will no longer be available directly on Xbox. However, you can continue to use the Xbox skill for Cortana via an app on a mobile device or PC. Microsoft characterizes it as "moving away from on-console experiences to cloud-based assistant". Microsoft has yet to annonce a date for the public roll-out of the software update. - Source: Microsoft via The Verge
