The Apple TV app is now available on select Roku TVs and devices. It offers access to iTunes' library of 4K HDR movies as well as partner channels. Apple TV+ launches on November 1.

Apple TV app on Roku

Despite developing competing TV platforms, Apple and Roku have come together to launch the Apple TV app on the Roku platform. Roku likes to portray itself as a content agnostic platform while Apple is looking for partners to get its new streaming service, Apple TV+, off the ground. After announcing the news earlier this year, the Apple TV app is now available on newer Roku devices, including Roku TVs, media players, and the soundbar. A list of compatible Roku models is included at the bottom. - "Today, we’re excited to announce the Apple TV app is available as a channel today on the Roku platform! The new channel brings together a number of different ways to discover and watch movies, TV shows, and more, and for the first time ever, gives you access to your iTunes video library on the Roku platform," said Roku.

From within the Apple TV app, Roku users can buy or rent more than 100,000 movies and TV shows, including iTunes' library of 4K HDR movies (full list here). The app also lets users subscribe to partner channels such as HBO, Showtime, and Starz. And on November 1, Apple will launch its Apple TV+ streaming service for $5 per month. All of the content will be housed inside the Apple TV app. Besides Roku, the Apple TV app is available on the Apple TV boxes as well as 2018 and 2019 Samsung Smart TVs. It will launch on select LG, Sony, and Vizio TVs plus FireTV devices later this year. Some of the other platforms also support Apple's AirPlay 2 and HomeKit. These features are not supported on Roku devices - at least not at this time. The Apple TV app is available now on Roku devices in the US, UK, and other regions (see below).
