Most popular releases of 2019
Netflix is the world's largest video streaming service and some of its originals are becoming cultural phenomena across the world's regions. The company usually refrains from releasing viewer data so its lists of the most popular releases of 2019 provide a little insight.
In the US (and Australia), Netflix's most popular release of 2019 was Murder Mystery starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston. Stranger Things 3 came in second while The Witcher ranked sixth on the list.
Netflix has released similar lists in many other regions. Unsurprisingly, The Witcher climbed to the top spot in Poland (also Germany, Denmark). The series is based on Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski's fantasy novels. Similarly, La casa di carta (Money Heist) topped the list of most popular series in Spain (also Italy, France, Belgium), while Sacred Games 2 topped the list in India.
Netflix's breathtaking Our Planet ranked high on the list of most popular documentary releases of 2019 across most regions (documentaries lists are not embedded below). Other popular releases of 2019 across the world's regions include titles such as You, 6 Underground, and The Irishman.
- " lists are ranked based on accounts that choose to watch two minutes or more of a title during its first 28 days on Netflix in 2019," the company explained and added: "Titles released this month incorporate viewing predictions."
A few non-Netflix productions such as Disney's The Incredibles 2 also made the lists. Such titles are likely to disappear from Netflix in the coming years as Disney, WarnerMedia and others launch or expand availability of their own streaming services.
We have include Netflix's most-popular lists for the US, Germany, Spain, Italy, France, Australia, Japan, India, Poland, and other regions below. Perhaps these lists can also serve as inspiration.
