China's Konka reenters the US market with OLED & LCD TVs

06 Jan 2020 | Rasmus Larsen |

After a failed first attempt, China's Konka will try to conquer the US from 2020 by launching a line-up of LCD TVs as well an OLED TV with an "unmatched combination of quality and value".

Konka reenters the US

Konka is one of the largest TV brands in its home country of China. Like other Chinese TV brands, it has ambitions to become an international brand. At CES 2020, Konka announced that it is reentering North America. - "We are very excited to launch three key display technologies, all offering unique consumer advantages and high value," said Scott Ramirez, SVP of sales and marketing, Konka North America. "In keeping with Konka’s mission to provide the best possible combination of quality, technology and value, Konka is providing an incredible line-up of smart TV products that are also a smart choice for both retailers and consumers."

Konka OLED TV

First to hit the market will be three new LCD TV ranges, sold as "LED" and "QLED" TVs. Konka is also bringing 55 and 65-inch OLED TVs to the US, saying that it aims to deliver "an unmatched combination of quality and value". That is good news for consumers in the US that have had fewer OLED TVs to choose from compared to consumers in Europe where Philips, Panasonic, Grundig, B&O, Loewe, and others have also been selling OLED TVs, driving down prices to lower levels than FALD-based LCD TVs in some countries. The panel is likely to be sourced from LG Display that is adding a number of new companies - including Vizio - to its list of OLED TVs partners this year.

Konka Q7 Series

Konka said that its OLED TV will be called X11. It features 4K resolution and a built-in soundbar. The OLED TV will be available in spring 2020. Pricing details will be announced later. At CES 2020, the Chinese TV maker is also exhibiting microLED walls at 118 inches (4K) and 236 inches (8K) as well as an 88-inch 8K OLED prototype.
