The new HQ-Q800T soundbar plays in "Q Symphony" with a 2020 Samsung TV to provide a fuller sound stage. The company will also launch new S and T series soundbars.
Samsung 2020 soundbars
Samsung did not unveil a new flagship soundbar for 2020 at CES 2020 - Q950T and Q900T soundbars are expected to be announced later this year - but it did unveil its HQ-Q800T soundbar, which is the first to feature its 'Q Symphony' technology.
- "Samsung’s revolutionary Q-Symphony feature harnesses the power of 2020 QLED 8K TVs and the HQ-Q800T soundbar – combining the former’s built-in speakers with the latter’s impressive audio capabilities – to deliver a truly immersive and powerful sound experience," the company explained.
In other words, you will be able to connect the Q800T soundbar to a Samsung 2020 TV via HDMI and use the speakers in the TV in combination with the soundbar. This will create a wider and fuller sound stage, according to Samsung. The company teased that together with a high-end soundbar, the system will deliver an even more impactful improvement.
The 'Q Symphony' feature will not work with previous Samsung TVs. This may be related to lip sync correction or simply be a marketing decision. If you are using an Apple TV box you can output TV audio simultaneously to a TV and a soundbar (via HDMI or wirelessly through AirPlay 2), and apply lip sync correction through an integrated calibration function. Apple's system is limited to stereo.
Samsung's HQ-Q800T soundbar is a 3.1.2-channel soundbar with a wireless subwoofer. It supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, and uses Samsung's Acoustic Beam 2.0 technology to imitate directional sound. We have not yet had a chance to listen to the latest generation from the South Korean company but usually such systems fall short compared to having real speaker units.
- "While music is playing, the Q800T will also transform the TV into a visual experience with a SoundWall feature that identifies and analyzes the genre, tempo and mood of the music to create visual graphics to display on the TV screen," added Samsung.
S and T series soundbars
Samsung will also introduce HQ-Q70T and HQ-Q60T soundbars in 2020 as well as new S Series and T Series soundbars.
The S Series models, including a 4.0-channel S60 with front- and side-firing units, will be positioned as mid-range soundbars optimized for music listening while the T Series soundbars will be low-end models.
More details and pricing will be announced closer to availability, the company said.
