How big is the Sony PlayStation 5?

17 Jun 2020 | Rasmus Larsen |

Sony PlayStation 5 will be noticeably taller than any PlayStation or Xbox that came before it - even the original PlayStation 3. Around 38-40 cm tall and 10 cm wide, according to our calculations.

PlayStation 5 is a beast

An optical disc drive opening is 12 cm in length so judging from the press pictures of the PlayStation 5 with UHD Blu-ray drive, it must be approximately 38 to 40 cm tall (including the stand), and close to 10 cm in width at its widest point.

How deep? That is harder to estimate based on Sony's pictures but our guess is over 20 cm in depth. It is also worth noting that the stand goes under the console in horizontal orientation, as shown here.

PS5

If accurate, it would make PS5 the tallest PlayStation to date. Its volume is harder to estimate because it is not a square but it is likely to be as big as the original PS3.
Dimensions (cm)
PlayStation 5approx. 38-40 x 10 x >20 cm
PlayStation 4 Pro29.5 x 5.5 x 32.7 cm
PlayStation 3 (original)32.5 x 9.8 x 27.4 cm
Xbox Series X30.1 x 15.1 x 15.1 cm
Xbox One X30 x 24 x 6 cm
Xbox One S29.5 x 23 x 6.5 cm
Reddit user GREBO7 has lined up recent PlayStation and Xbox consoles in the picture below. It should provide a decent estimate for how big PlayStation 5 is compared to the console that you have at home. Also read: Sony unveils two PlayStation 5 consoles Why so huge?
