Netflix is testing a shuffle button

19 Aug 2020 | Rasmus Larsen |

Netflix is testing a 'Shuffle Play' option to let users play a random title based on their viewing history, according to Variety.

Shuffle, next

After having tested a 'Watch Now' option to play a random episode of a specific TV series last year, the company is now testing multiple 'Shuffle' function with select users worldwide to start a random title based on your viewing history. - "The purpose of the test is to make it easier for members to find something to watch," a Netflix spokesperson said. "The hope is to absolutely productize something." The shuffle test is currently seen only on TV devices, according to the company, and the 'Shuffle Play' button is seen directly under the profile icon. Some users are also seeing a 'Play Something' button in the menu sidebar. Netflix often tests new features before rolling them out to all subscribers. A shuffle function is an interesting development in a streaming reality where users have grown accustomed to making active choices as opposed to flow TV, or channels, where viewers are watching more passively. - Source: Netflix via Variety
