List: Games optimized for Xbox Series X/S on launch day

19 Oct 2020 | Rasmus Larsen |

Microsoft has confirmed that 30 games will be optimized for Xbox Series X and Series S on launch day. Look for logos indicating Smart Delivery, 120fps, ray-tracing, and more.

Xbox Series X/S games

Xbox Series X and S will be backwards compatible with games from all previous Xbox generations, but obviously you will also find games optimized specifically for the new consoles. These games are referred to as 'Xbox Series X/S Optimized Titles'. There will be 30 optimized games at launch, says Microsoft, including titles like Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Dirt 5, Forza Horizon 4, Gears 5, and Watch Dogs: Legion. The full list is included below. However, not all games will be "optimized" in the same way. Some developers may decide to implement ray-tracing support for more realistic lights and reflections, while others may prioritize 120fps for smoother gameplay. Although not exhaustive, Microsoft's Series X page includes logos for these various optimizations for each game. Below you see examples of optimization icons found on the Chorus and Dirt 5 game pages. Note that even though Dirt 5 lists 4K and 120fps, you are not getting both at the same time. To reach 120fps, developers can use resolution downscaling or opt to reduce visual effects. The next-gen consoles are not powerful enough to deliver everything at once. As for 'Smart Delivery', it means that the game will be upgraded automatically and free of charge if you own it for Xbox One.

Chorus - Xbox Series X

Chrous will be optimized with 4K, 60fps, and ray-tracing on Xbox Series X

Dirt 5 - Xbox Series X

Dirt 5 will be optimized with 4K, 120fps (not both at the same time), and 'Smart Delivery' on Xbox Series X

More optimized games coming soon

Microsoft said that more optimized titles will be coming before the end of the year including Cyberpunk 2077. - "There will be more incredible games coming to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S before the end of the year including Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War launching November 13, Destiny 2: Beyond Light launching November 10 and optimized for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on December 8, and Xbox console launch exclusive The Medium on December 10," said Microsoft. "When Cyberpunk 2077 launches on November 19 it will look and play best on our next gen consoles."
