The TV market is expected to grow 2.8% to 223 million TV units in 2021, according to market research firm TrendForce and a report by The Elec. 65-inch or larger TVs will grow over 30%.
TV market in 2021
TV shipments dropped last year in the early stages of the coronavirus pandemic but began to surge in April as people were forced indoors – also reflected in the figures for streaming subscriptions.
In 2020, 217 million TVs were shipped globally, a 0.3% decline compared to 2019, according to TrendForce. The research firm expects the market to grow 2.8% to 223 million TVs in 2021 due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic as well as major sports events such as the Tokyo Olympics.
It also expects sales of large-sized TVs to grow markedly in 2021, with shipments of 65-inch or larger TVs to increase by over 30%.

LG Display has said that it expects to produce 7-8 million OLED TV panels in 2021. The rest of the 223 million TVs expected to be sold in 2021 will be based on LCD technology.
