Sony has today unveiled the HT-S40R, a soundbar with a wireless subwoofer, "wireless" rear speakers, and a wireless connection to the TV. It costs 400 Euro.

5.1 soundbar system

HT-S40R is a "combination of a soundbar, subwoofer and wireless rear speakers delivers dynamic sound that fills your room", the company said. It will compete with soundbar systems from Sonos and others. - "Sony has announced the HT-S40R, a new powerful sound system, perfect for recreating a real cinema sound that fits your home. The HT-S40R has 600W of powerful and real 5.1 channel surround sound, with wireless rear speakers that bring every movie to life," said Sony.

Sony explained that a compatible Sony TV can send audio wirelessly to HT-S40R via Bluetooth. The rear speakers are "wireless" in the sense that no wires are required between the front and rear. However, you will still need a wireless amplifier for the rear speakers as seen in the photo above (photo of the amplifier included at the bottom).
