Infuse 7 released for Apple TV, macOS & iOS with new design

06 May 2021 | Rasmus Larsen |

Infuse, the popular media player app, is now officially available on Apple Mac, in addition to Apple TV and iPad/iPhone. Infuse 7 also includes a redesigned and unified home screen.

Infuse 7 on Mac

Like Plex and VLC, Infuse lets you enjoy videos, movies, and other media files stored locally on a hard drive. The easy-to-use app has reached version 7 and is for the first time available on Mac (Intel and M1). - "This all-new Mac app includes the same great features you love, and runs natively on both Intel and M1 Macs for amazing performance. The design has a familiar layout to iOS and Apple TV, and has been fine-tuned for use on macOS Big Sur. Syncing shares, libraries, watched history, and ratings is all done seamlessly between iOS, Apple TV, and Mac using iCloud. What's better? Infuse for macOS is available as a free download with no additional costs for existing Pro users. Hooray!," the company announced.

Refreshed, unified home screen

There is refreshed, unified home screen with more customization options including a feature to pin lists of movies to the home screen by rating, playlist, unwatched etc. Changes will sync via iCloud across Apple TV, iPhone/iPad, and Mac. - "iOS and Apple TV are also getting some love in 7.0. Both platforms include beautiful new designs which make extensive use of fan art to set the mood for the perfect movie night. There is also dramatic improvements for TV show browsing on iOS, with all new season episode thumbnails." Infuse supports 4K, HDR and a range of video/audio formats including HEVC as well as Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD-MA. Film covers, metadata and subtitles are automatically indexed. Infuse can also connect to Plex and Kodi servers. Unlike for example Plex, which uses the server, Infuse uses the player to decode/transcode video files, meaning your Apple TV, iPad/iPhone or Mac. The company said that Infuse 7 (also the new Mac app) is included with an Infuse Pro subscription. Users running Infuse 4, 5 or 6 are offered a free year of Infuse Pro if they upgrade to version 7. The app can be found here.
