Vizio unveils 2022 line-up of P-series, M-Series 4K LCD TVs

Vizio today unveiled its 2022 line-up of upgraded LCD TVs spanning 24 to 85 inches, some with local dimming and HDMI 2.1 for 4K120 and VRR gaming.

The new, upgraded PQX-series has Vizio's most advanced local dimming with 792 zones (85-inch model). The company claims that the 85-inch can hit 3000 nits peak brightness and 85% Rec.2020 in HDR mode. The two other new P-series models can hit up to 1200 nits, it said. Like Vizio's previous models, the upgraded P-series LCD TVs come with 4K resolution, support for multiple HDR formats (HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, Dolby Vision), and HDMI 2.1 support with 4K120, HDMI VRR, and AMD FreeSync Premium. The P-series models have under 7ms input lag, according to the company. - "The Vizio ProGaming Engine (on select models) is equipped with AMD FreeSync and Auto Game Mode, so gamers can dominate the competition with lower input lag and smoother graphics for captivating game play. HDMI 2.1 support across all 4K TV series, with 4k/120Hz support on P-Series assures optimal performance from next-gen consoles as well as easy setup and peak audio/video quality from all connected devices," said Vizio.

Vizio 2022 line-up

The step-down M-series still offers local dimming, but only up to 32 zones. The M-series will be available in 43 to 75 inches. These LCD TVs feature 4K resolution and standard HDMI 2.0 with support for AMD FreeSync (40-60Hz range). Some backwards compatible HDMI 2.1 features (ALLM and eARC) are supported on the HDMI 2.0 chipset. In addition, Vizio will launch new affordable V-series and D-series LCD TV spanning 24 to 75 inches. These LCD TVs use direct LED backlight but lack the advanced zone dimming capabilities of more expensive models. A height-adjustable base is available for MQ7 (65-inch and above) and PQ9 models to accommodate a soundbar.

Upgraded SmartCast with Vizio Voice

The 2022 models with come with an upgraded version of the SmartCast platform and for the first time 'Vizio Voice', which is the company's own voice assistant as an alternative to Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. SmartCast provides access to streaming apps such as Apple TV, Disney+, Hulu, Netflix, and Prime Video. New for 2021 are Fox Now, Paramount+ and CW. The company said that this year's "iteration of SmartCast loads faster than ever".

Vizio has a new remote too with no less than seven sponsored streaming buttons. The TVs also feature Chromecast, AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support. Also read: More sponsored buttons coming to a remote control near you Vizio refers to the refreshed TVs as its 2022 line-up after having rebranded its 2020 models to 2021 models as a way to signal that they would carry over. Some of the current models, including the OLED models and the 65- to 75-inch PX models, will continue to be available in Q3 and Q4 of 2021. The new V-series and D-series models are available now in the US. The M-series will launch in July/August while the P-Series will launch in July. The 85-inch PQX will arrive later.
