Beginning in 2022, all movies from Universal, DreamWorks, Illumination, and Focus Features will be available exclusively on Peacock no more than four months after their theatrical debuts.
Peacock movie deal
Universal and Peacock, both owned by Comcast's NBCUniversal, have announced a new exclusive deal to bring all new movies to Peacock, instead of HBO Max, starting next year. It is the so-called 'pay-one' window.
- "The deal includes an accelerated window that will bring Universal, Focus Features, Illumination, and DreamWorks Animation titles exclusively to Peacock no later than four months following their theatrical debuts. The traditional 18-month Pay-One window will be broken into three segments with titles available for the first and last four-month segments exclusively on Peacock," the companies said in a joint statement.
After the first four months on Peacock, the movies can appear on a non-exclusive basis for up to 10 months on other streaming services such as Netflix or HBO. It is unclear how the new deal affects Blu-ray releases.
The deal covers all movies from Universal, DreamWorks, Illumination, and Focus Features. Upcoming releases include Jurassic World: Dominion, The Bad Guys, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, and Minions: The Rise of Gru.
The Peacock streaming service is available on popular TV platforms such as Android TV, Apple TV, Amazon FireTV, Chromecast, LG webOS, Samsung, Roku, Vizio SmartCast, PlayStation, and Xbox. 4K HDR streaming is not supported at this time.
While not as drastic a move as Disney's Premier Access or Warner's decision to debut all 2021 movies on HBO Max, it is another sign that the industry is embracing the streaming model. Universal previously announced a deal that enables it to offer new movies as PVOD (premium VOD) just 17 days after the theatrical debut.

Movies produced for Peacock
Universal Pictures will also start producing new movies that will bypass theaters and premiere exclusively on the Peacock streaming service.
- "Additionally, beginning in 2022, original films developed and produced exclusively for Peacock by Universal Pictures will also premiere on the service."
The Peacock streaming service is currently available only in the US. The company has hinted that it is planning to bring Peacock to international markets but has not provided any details.
