Sagemcom partners with B&O to launch Dolby Atmos box

Bang & Olufsen has developed the integrated Dolby Atmos audio system in Sagemcom’s new set-top box for tele- and TV providers.

B&O, Sagemcom partnership

Sagemcom's Video Soundbox is a modern 4K set-top box. It supports TV channels as well as WiFi 6 for video (Amazon, Netflix, others) and music streaming. And for the first time it has a built-in compact speaker system with Dolby Atmos support, developed by Bang & Olufsen. - "Bang & Olufsen designers, technicians, and acousticians have carefully crafted the bespoke audio solution for the Video Soundbox™ to ensure that consumers get natural and authentic sound. The set-top box will be the world’s first to be Dolby Atmos certified, the surround-sound format used in the vast majority of cinemas and in a number of video streaming applications. Inside are three high-quality speakers with a combined active and passive woofer concept to provide a unique deep bass experience and let users experience the surround audio in premium quality," said Bang & Olufsen.

Opportunity to reach more homes

The partnership with Sagemcom represents an opportunity to reach more homes said B&O, the Danish maker of luxury consumer electronics. - "We are pleased to be partnering with industry leader Sagemcom on this exciting new proposition and create immersive audio experiences to more consumers every time they watch TV or listens to music. For Bang & Olufsen, this new product represents a great opportunity to bring amazing audio into people’s homes through service operators around the world," said Duncan McCue, VP for Brand Partnering & Licensing, Bang & Olufsen. For Sagemcom, it is the next step after adding streaming capabilities to classic tuner-based set-top boxes. For decades, Bang & Olufsen reserved its TV audio technologies for its own TVs but in recent years the company has opened up. In 2019, Bang & Olufsen launched its first soundbar for non-B&O TVs. Sagemcom said that the box will be available through the first TV distributors, Vodafone in Spain, this summer.
