Dolby Vision 120Hz support rolling out to more 2020-2021 LG OLED & LCD TVs

In addition to C1, G1, CX and GX, LG is bringing Dolby Vision 4K 120Hz gaming support to B1 as well as several high-end LCD ranges from 2020 and 2021. Firmware updates are rolling out now.

Dolby Vision 120Hz

If you own the Xbox Series X you can enjoy a handful of console games in Dolby Vision at up to 120fps – with or without VRR. If you have the right TV, that is. LG became the first TV maker to support Dolby Vision beyond 60Hz when it updated models like C1 and G1 earlier this year. After expanding support further to CX and GX earlier this month, LG has now started rolling out Dolby Vision 4K 120Hz compatibility more widely across its high-end 2020 and 2021 OLED and LCD models. LG, Sony & Panasonic respond - "LG continues to lead the way in providing TVs with advanced gaming capabilities and has time and again demonstrated its commitment to meeting the needs of the global gaming community. When gaming consoles started to test Dolby Vision gaming at 4K 120Hz this year, LG was the first TV maker to show its commitment by rolling out support for Dolby Vision gaming (4K 120Hz) to its 2021 model G1 and C1 OLED TVs as early as June," announced LG. "Reaffirming its dedication to delivering the best big-screen gaming experience around, LG is updating a total of 14 LG TV series to offer support for Dolby Vision gaming at 4K 120Hz."

Here is a list of compatible TV models, as confirmed by LG, with links to the relevant model in the TV Database, which now includes information on the level of 4K120 HFR support (HDR10, Dolby Vision) – and many other things that will be announced soon.

It is a staggered rollout so if you are not seeing the new firmware from the TV's update menu check LG's support pages (US, UK etc.) from where it can be downloaded manually and installed via USB. PlayStation 5 supports 4K120 with HDR10 but not Dolby Vision. No media players support 4K120 Dolby Vision output at this time but we expect the first ones to appear over the next few years. LG previously said that it is "looking into" the possibility of bringing Dolby Vision 120Hz support to C9 from 2019 but the company did not provide an update on the matter at this time.
