TCL Google TVs pulled from shelves in the US due to software issues

TCL's new 5- and 6-series Google TVs are no longer available from Best Buy but TCL hopes them to return with "marked improvements" soon, according to reports from The Verge and 9to5Google.

TCL Google TV woes

Best Buy, the exclusive retailer of TCL Google TVs, has removed both of TCL's models from its store listings. The TV manufacturer confirms that buyers are facing issues with stability of the user interface and software. There are widespread user complaints about slow and buggy software and failure to react promptly to remote control commands. There are also reports of crashing, which requires a soft reset, according to the The Verge. TCL hopes to have its Google TVs return in the near future. - "TCL is committed to delivering premium products with world-class experiences and the new product featuring Google TV is certainly no different. However, it has come to our attention that some are facing challenges with the stability of the user interface featured on TCL sets with Google TV. Our high-performance TVs are constantly evolving and recent software updates have allowed us to make significant progress, but we are continuing to refine our products featuring Google TV. Our customers will see marked improvements in the weeks to come and their patience is appreciated," the company said in a statement to 9to5Google.

TCL's Google TVs were launched in the US in August as the new 5-series and 6-series LCD models, the latter with HDMI 2.1 and miniLED zone dimming. It was a significant launch because TCL for years has been the largest and most important Roku TV partner. TCL still uses Roku in other models. TCL has also launched Google TVs in Europe. Sony has shifted to Google TV for its entire range of 2021 TVs in all regions.
