Acer announces 48" 4K 138Hz OLED gaming monitor

At CES 2022, Acer has unveiled its first 48-inch OLED monitor. It is equipped with HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4 and USB 3.2 ports and supports 4K at up to 138Hz.

Not 120Hz or 144Hz, but 138Hz. That is what Acer has landed on with its new 4K OLED monitor. It is a slightly higher refresh rate than the usual OLED TV or monitor but since it is a non-standard refresh rate you may need to engage VRR on a PC to benefit from it. Luckily, Acer's CG48 supports VRR and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro. It features HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4 inputs as well as four USB 3.2 ports and a USB Type-C port. Acer noted that 4K at 138Hz is supported over HDMI 2.1 – just not with game consoles like PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Acer also touted a 0.1 ms response time (GtG), HDR10 support, 98% DCI-P3 coverage, true black, and pixel-level luminance and color control. - "OLED monitors are capable of turning off individual pixels, allowing for true blacks to be replicated. They also do not require backlighting, increasing the overall efficiency of the monitors," said Acer. All this is old news for anyone who is familiar with LG Display's WOLED panel, which is the foundation under Acer CG48, and is worth noting that modern OLED TVs come with the same 48-inch panel and support many of the same features. The main difference here is DisplayPort 1.4 and 138Hz support. Acer's Predator CG48 OLED monitor will be available in North America and Europe in Q3 2022 starting at $2500 and €2200. The company also announced the Predator X32 and X32 FP gaming monitors. Both of these 32-inch 4K IPS LCD monitors will have 576-zone miniLED local dimming. They will be available in North America and Europe in Q2 2022 starting at $1800 and €1600.
