07 Jan 2022 | Rasmus Larsen |

Vizio will for the first time support 240Hz refresh at 1080p in its new M-series Quantum X LCD TV that also support 4K120. The gaming-oriented TV will launch later this year.

First step towards 240Hz

Vizio refers to its new LCD TV as a "gaming Smart TV". At launch, it will be available only in 50 inches (model name M50QXM-K01). This is the first step towards 240Hz support in Vizio TVs. 240Hz will be limited to 1080p resolution where the TV can operate in 48-240Hz VRR. The TV will also support 48-120Hz VRR at 4K resolution. - "Vizio's new 4K HDR Gaming Smart TV display features 48-120Hz VRR support at 4K, and also offers 48-240Hz VRR support at 1080p. This lightning-fast 240fps frame rate doubles the highest frame rate currently available in other consumer TVs, and virtually eliminates ghosting with razor sharp images with superbly smooth and natural motion during fast-action game play," announced Vizio. In addition, the TV will support other gaming features such as ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) for auto-switching into game mode, Dolby Vision Auto Gaming, and HGiG. Behind the LCD panel there is an LED backlight with some form of local dimming. The number of dimming zones was not disclosed. At CES 2022, Samsung and TCL also increased their TV's refresh rate to 144Hz at 4K resolution. The SmartCast platform provides access to streaming apps like Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, Disney+, HBO Max, Hulu and Net!ix. Apple AirPlay and Chromecast are built-in. There is also support for Apple HomeKit, Google Assistant and Alexa-enabled devices as well as Dolby Digital Plus, AC4, and DTS:X audio decoding. Vizio's M50QXM-K01 will be available later in 2022. Pricing, launch timing and more details will be announced later.
