Harman Kardon launches Sonos Arc rival with Dolby Atmos

10 May 2022 | Rasmus Larsen |

The new soundbar, which supports Dolby Atmos and DTS: X with up-firing speakers, can stand alone as an all-in-one solution or be expanded with additional Citation speakers.

Like Sonos, Harman Kardon's Citation series can be expanded with additional speakers at the time of purchase or later, e.g. a subwoofer, surround rear speakers or front speakers (to make the soundbar act as a center channel).

As such, the Citation Multibeam 1100 soundbar can be seen as an alternative to the Sonos Arc.

Harman Kardon's new 1100 soundbar is the big brother to the older 700 soundbar. It now features Dolby Atmos and DTS:X support for movies, series and games as well as AirPlay 2 and Chromecast for music. It can be connected to the TV via HDMI eARC or directly to the audio source using HDMI In. - "The Harman Kardon Citation Multibeam 1100 Soundbar, which provides 3D cinematic surround sound upgraded to a new level, won the CES 2022 Innovation Awards and was recognized for its sound performance," said Harman Kardon.

Harman's MultiBeam technology is designed to immerse the viewer in a wide soundstage with the help of beam-forming sound technology. A system called PureVoice aim to deliver clear dialog at any volume level, the company added. Automatic room calibration is built in. Harman Kardon is owned by Samsung. The soundbar is wrapped in fabric in either gray or black. Harman Kardon Citation MultiBeam 1100 will be available later in May in Europe for £799 in the UK and around €999 in the rest of Europe.
