Second-generation JVC OLED TVs now run Android TV

16 Jun 2022 | Rasmus Larsen |

The second-generation JVC OLED TVs will switch from a Linux-based Smart TV platform to Google's Android TV. They will be available in 55 and 65 inches in most of Europe.

Now a Vestel brand, JVC launched its first OLED TVs last year known as the VO9100 series. The refreshed 9200 series still features a 100/120Hz OLED panel with 4K resolution, ALLM and eARC, HDR support (HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision) as well as support for Dolby Atmos audio.

The biggest change is the switch from a Linux-based platform in last year's models, which offered only a handful of streaming apps, to Google's Android TV operating system that provides access to most international and local streaming apps.

Android TV also features Chromecast, Google Assistant and Google Stadia.

The TVs come with a swivel stand. Vestel is bringing the OLED TVs to Europe (except the UK, France and Nordic countries) where they will compete with mid-range OLED TVs from other brands. Most mid-range TVs are still based on LCD technology but OLED is starting to make inroads. Pricing will depend on the region. Expect the new JVC OLED TVs to show up in Europeans stores starting this month.
