Apple TV+ has the highest average IMDb scores for the second year in a row, according to a new study. Netflix offers the largest library and the highest number of titles in 4K.
The study by Self Financial analyzes Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, Disney+, Apple TV+, HBO Max, Paramount+, and Peacock in the US "to find out which one offers consumers the best content for their money".
- "Apple TV+ has the highest average IMDb score for its streaming library (7.08/10), for the 2nd year running (2021 and 2022), but has the smallest library of content," the study concluded.
Apple TV+ has been on a roll lately with hit shows and movies like For All Mankind, CODA, Ted Lasso and Severance, but less-talked-about shows such as Pachinko, Calls and Acapulco have also received high ratings.
Unlike its competitors, Apple TV+ offers the same catalog in all regions – with only a few exceptions.
Netflix leads in quantity, 4K
The study found that Netflix offers the largest content library overall as well as the largest selection of titles in 4K (667 titles as of May 2022).
Netflix also added the highest number of new shows/movies (1404) from 2021 to 2022.
In the US, Netflix offers the most 'excellent' quality titles overall (795) followed by HBO Max at 463. HBO Max offers the most 'excellent' quality (8+ IMDb rating) movies per $1 spent (24 movies).
Apple TV+ offers the highest-quality family content on average (but only 38 titles) with shows like Fraggle Rock and Charlie Brown. Disney+ is the clear winner in terms of quantity (1139 titles). HBO Max was leading in both quantity and quality last year.
