Amazon is raising the price of its Prime subscription plan in Europe in mid-September, less than two weeks after the first episode of The Rings of Power premieres.
Amazon cited "increased inflation and operating costs" as well as more content as the main reasons for the first price adjustments since 2018 in Europe and since 2014 in the UK. Amazon raised prices in the US in February.
Amazon Prime includes free shipping, access to the Prime Video streaming services, access to Amazon Music, and other perks.
The price increase on an annual basis is as follows:
Germany: €69 to €89.90 – 30% increase
France: €49 to €69.90 – 43% increase
Italy: €36 to €49.90 – 39% increase
Spain: €36 to €49.90 – 39% increase
UK: £79 to £95 – 20% increase
The changes take effect starting September 15, 2022, for new and existing members, less than two weeks after the premiere of The Rings of Power on September 2.
New episodes of The Rings of Power will be released weekly until mid-October. There are 8 episodes in the first season.
