Philips starts rolling out Android 11 for 2019 and 2020 TV models

08 Dec 2022 | Rasmus Larsen |

Philips skips Android 10 and jumps straight to Android 11 on its 2019 and 2020 TV models. The new firmware is rolling out now but it will take time before it reaches all devices.

Philips 2019 (ending on 04) and 2020 (ending on 05) TV models launched on Android 9. The company has committed to updating them and although it has a taken a lot longer than anticipated the TVs are now finally getting Android 11.

Just like Nvidia, Philips has decided to skip Android 10 that did not contain any new, relevant user-facing features. Android 11 is also a small update but at least it adds something; Gboard TV keyboard with speech-to-text and predictive typing, HDMI ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) support in apps, instant apps, and wider support for game controllers such as Nintendo's Switch Pro controller (Bluetooth and USB) and Valve's Steam controller (USB).
