The new UDP800 UHD Blu-ray player promises reference image quality as well as multi-format support for UHD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD, DVD-Audio, SACD and more. Price? 1600 Euro.
Niche companies such as Pannde, Reavon and now Magnetar are trying to step in with high-end UHD Blu-ray players after Oppo abandoned the disc player market.

A premium price tag, too
At 1600 Euro, it is significantly more expensive than UHD Blu-ray players from, for example, Panasonic and Sony. Magnetar argues that UDP800 is designed as a premium product both inside and out.
It supports HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, and spins both video discs and audio discs such as DVD-Audio, SACD and CD. In addition, it has analog outputs and a "high-quality MUSES8920 amp for audiophile sound quality". It has a rigid design with an aluminium front and weighs a total of 8 kilograms. A USB hard drive can be connected for playback of local media files.
Is that enough to justify the hefty 1600 Euro price tag? We will let you be the judge of that. Magnetar UDP800 is available now in Europe.
