Samsung in talks to bring its free streaming service to other TV brands

23 Jan 2023 | Rasmus Larsen |

Samsung's free streaming service with ads, TV Plus, could soon show up in TVs from TCL and other brands.

- "To grow the audience of its free TV Plus streaming service, Samsung is considering a move that seemed unthinkable not too long ago: The consumer electronics giant has approached some of its competitors about launching TV Plus on their TV sets, I’ve learned from multiple sources with knowledge of those conversations," writes Janko Roettgers in his Lowpass newsletter.

Samsung has apparently had talks with TCL in recent months.

Samsung's TV Plus is a so-called FAST (Free Ad-Supported Streaming) service similar to The Roku Channel, Amazon's Freevee, Vizio WatchFree+, and LG Channels. These services typically offers free streaming channels that mimic the classic TV guide, with ads before, during and after shows. Samsung offers over 1800 channels globally. Samsung has not commented on the report but it would not be a huge surprise to see TV Plus expand to other brands's TVs. For example, The Roku Channel is already available in some from on Amazon's FireVTV devices and Samsung Smart TVs.
