Netflix will take on the incumbents head-on when it ventures into live TV. The streamer's first live transmission will be Chris Rock's global stand-up show Selective Outrage. Despite dismissing it as a rumor (like it did with ads), Netflix is reportedly considering getting into live sports. Before that happens, Netflix will experiment with live shows starting with Chris Rock: Selective Outrage that will be streamed live globally on March 4 (10pm ET, 7pm PT). - "Chris Rock is one of the most iconic and important comedic voices of our generation," said Robbie Praw, Netflix VP of Stand-up & Comedy Formats. "We're thrilled the entire world will be able to experience a live Chris Rock comedy event and be a part of Netflix history. This will be an unforgettable moment and we're so honored that Chris is carrying this torch." Netflix has now started publicly testing its live streaming technology, as seen below. The 2023 show will be broadcoast on Netflix's YouTube channel next month while the 2024 show will shift over to Netflix's own platform. - "As we begin to explore live streaming on Netflix, we look forward to partnering with SAG-AFTRA to elevate and expand this special ceremony as a global live event in 2024 and the years to come," said Bela Bajaria, Netflix Head of Global TV. Netflix is reportedly also exploring live voting for quiz shows and competitions. - Source: Netflix (cached)
