Apple TV & Music apps coming to 200 small TV brands, some will also get AirPlay, HomeKit

LG is bolstering its partnership with Apple to bring Apple's TV apps and services to third-party TV brands that have licensed the 'webOS Hub'. The apps will reach 200 brands.

In January 2021, LG announced plans to start licensing webOS to other TV makers in the form of a scaled-down version that has been dubbed 'webOS Hub'. In July 2022, LG said that its aim was to get 200 TV brands onboard.

LG has according to its own account reached the milestone of 200 partners and is partnering with Apple to bring the Apple TV app and Apple Music to webOS Hub.

- "The Apple TV app and Apple Music are now available in over 100 countries, which is where owners of webOS-enabled TVs from 200 partner brands will benefit from a growing list of content and life-enriching features. The latest OLED TVs and UHD TVs powered by webOS Hub* support AirPlay and HomeKit, allowing more audiences to experience the enhanced usability and convenience these advanced TVs provide," announced LG.

WebOS Hub partners include brands such as Seiki, Blaupunkt, Eko, Stream System, Konka, Aiwa, Hyundai, KMC, Walton, and Croma – mainly entry-level or low-end brands. It is the full Apple TV app with TV+ content such as Ted Lasso and For All Mankind, access to iTunes movie purchases/rentals, and subscription channels. No information on 4K, HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support was provided. Apple Music offers over 100 million songs plus music videos in 4K, and users can access their personal music library too. AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support will be available only in TV models with webOS Hub 2.0 (not 1.0). LG is not bringing new webOS generations to its own TVs or partner TVs after the sale.
