Sonos has announced that Amazon Alexa voice support will come to six Sonos products in 27 additional countries with a free software update this spring.

Alexa will soon work in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish in the following 27 countries: Argentina, Belgium, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, Ecuador, Finland, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Netherlands, Norway, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, and Turkey.

- "We’ve seen how our customers enjoy being able to use Alexa on their Sonos speakers for voice requests they know and love, such as streaming their favorite music and controlling other devices in their smart home. We’re thrilled to bring Alexa to more listeners around the world," said Joe van Zyl, Senior Director, Product Management, Sonos.

Control Netflix and Prime Video

Alexa can control music ("Alexa, play rock music”), TV content ("Alexa, pause the movie"), set timers, check the weather, and control various smart home devices such as lighting and plugs. The international version of Alexa is compatible with Amazon Prime Video and Netflix for video streaming as well as Amazon Music, Spotify abd TuneIn for music streaming. Google Assistant is already supported on Sonos while Apple Siri can control certain features of Sonos speakers via voice commands to an Apple device. Sonos also has its own voice system, Sonos Voice Control, which will later expand internationally. It will be possible to use Sonos Voice Control and another voice assistant at the same time. Alexa will work internationally on Sonos Roam, Move, Arc, Beam, Five and One. The free software update will be released sometime this spring.
