Walmart's 'Onn' is a dirt-cheap Google TV media player with support for 4K streaming and built-in Chromecast.
Walmart's new player is the successor to the previous 'Onn' devices launched in 2021. It is a direct alternative to Google's own Chromecast with Google TV as well as FireTV and Roku sticks, but obviously not more capable streaming players such as Apple TV 4K and Nvidia Shield that also offer Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support along with much faster hardware.
Walmart Onn supports 4K streaming but there is no mention of HDR support. It runs on the Amlogic AMLS905Y4 chip with 2GB of RAM and 8GB of storage for apps. It comes with Android 12 and support for both HEVC and AV1 video decoding.
Google TV provides access to the full slate of media apps including Prime Video, Apple TV, Disney+, HBO Max, and Netflix. Since it runs Google TV, it also has a built-in Chromecast function.
For less than $20 you can get Google TV on any TV.

The small black box costs only $19.88, but how is that even possible? Well, the SoC is cheap and there are four sponsored buttons on the remote control that Walmart likely gets compensated for. In addition, Google TV has an increasing number of ads – not just for streaming content anymore – on the homescreen.
Still, it might be a decent solution for a bedroom or a summer home.
