TCL launches 'world's thinnest all-in-one' TV as Samsung The Frame rival

12 Aug 2024 | Rasmus Larsen |

TCL claims that it is the world's thinnest 'all-in-one' TV. It comes with a matte screen, optional Bang & Olufsen speakers, built-in art features, and more..

The Chinese company had already announced that it will be partnering with the premium electronics brand Bang & Olufsen for TV audio. TCL is now launching the so-called Nxtframe TV, with B&O speakers an optional choice.

It is described as the "world’s thinnest All-In-One" TV at 1.1 inches in depth (1.2 inches on the 85") featuring a magnetic frame, a matte anti-reflective screen, and free access to the art library. The TV is positioned to compete directly with Samsung's popular The Frame, which has similar features but requires an external connection box, the One Connect, and a subscription plan for premium artwork. Hisense also recently introduced the CanvasTV to challenge Samsung The Frame.

TV and photo frame in one

Like Samsung's The Frame, TCL's Nxtframe is a regular TV that doubles as a digital photo frame when it is not in use. It has a pre-loaded library of artworks as well as a AI Art feature, although TCL does not yet include the famous pieces of art, such as Mona Lisa, like Samsung's The Frame. - "A digital masterpiece that can display a rotation of artwork, from paintings and photographs to drawings and street art, the NXTFRAME TV features TCL’s pre-loaded Art Library with adjustable matting styles for different sizes, finishes, and colors, several static and motion personal photo gallery options as well as a screen saver mode and background music capability. TCL’s AI Art also unlocks unique works of art simply by answering a few questions to customize the options to curate a customized experience," the company explained. It is powered by Google TV so you also have access to thousands of apps. In addition, it supports Apple AirPlay 2 and Amazon Alexa.

TCL is launching two versions of the A300 Nxtframe, with the A300 Pro featuring a 3.1.2-channel Bang & Olufsen soundbar and subwoofer, plus BeoSonic, a digital interface to customize the sound experience. It is an LCD TV with edge-lit LED, so while the speakers in the Pro version should outperform most TVs, the TV will not rank amongst the top-performing TVs from a picture quality perspective due to the lack of zone dimming found in, for example, TCL's high-end X8 and X9 ranges. We would not expect it to deliver great HDR either despite support for HDR10 and Dolby Vision. Specifications can be seen in the table below. - "With its thin off-white bezel, included light wood magnetic frame, matte anti-glare screen, and flush mount wall bracket, TCL’s NXTFRAME TV will accentuate virtually any home decor. Plus, TCL’s advanced AiPQ Processor will help bring digital art to life. The addition of our Pro series, in partnership with B&O, takes NXTFRAME to an all-new level, matching beautiful audio with beautiful design," said Scott Ramirez, VP of Product Marketing and Development, TCL. The TCL A300 Nxtframe is available now in the US in 55, 65, 75 and 85 inches, starting at $1500, with the A300 Pro starting at $2000. An optional floor stand and table feet will be available in September for $700 and $150. It will soon be available in more regions including Europe.
