On newer Philips OLED TVs, you can now select the Filmmaker Mode picture mode regardless of the video format of the movie you are watching.
LG announced at CES 2024 in Las Vegas that its OLED TVs will, for the first time, extend Filmmaker Mode from SDR and HDR10 to also work with content in Dolby Vision format. However, LG is not the only TV maker in the first wave.
In our review of Philips OLED809, which was published today, FlatpanelsHD found that the TV now includes Dolby Vision Filmmaker Mode. The new picture mode was implemented in collaboration with Dolby, Philips confirmed to FlatpanelsHD.
Philips said that Dolby Vision Filmmaker Mode will be available in all 2024 OLED models. The picture mode has also been added to 2023 Philips OLED TVs.

Advantages of Filmmaker Mode
Dolby Vision Filmmaker Mode replaces the 'Dolby Vision Dark' picture mode, so it does not bring significant changes in picture quality. However, it will make it easier for users to watch movies and series as they were created by the filmmaker, regardless of content format.
Filmmaker Mode was launched in 2020 by the UHD Alliance, a coalition of Hollywood studios and filmmakers like Christopher Nolan and Martin Scorsese, TV maker and content distributors. The picture mode prevents boosted colors and brightness, motion smoothing and similar tricks.
Filmmaker Mode can also include automation to have the TV automatically switch to Filmmaker Mode when a movie starts, and revert to a different picture mode afterward. It is up to TV makers and streaming services to incorporate this. As of now, only Prime Video and the Apple TV app have done so.

Philips added that the reason it is abbreviated to 'Dolby Vision Filmmaker' in the picture menu is simply due to a limitation on the number of characters in the user interface.
