TCL unveils 2025 miniLED LCD flagship with 6500 nits

05 Sep 2024 | Rasmus Larsen |

TCL has unveiled its upgraded flagship miniLED LCD TV, available in 85 and 98 inches, featuring up to 14112 dimming zones and up to 6500 nits of peak brightness.

The TV was revealed today at IFA 2024 in Berlin under the name X11H, though FlatpanelsHD has also heard it referred to as the X965 (Europe) and QM952G (America). It is the successor to this year's X955 / QM851G and will launch later as TCL's 2025 flagship.

The 85-inch model features 10386 dimming zones while the 98-inch has 14112 zones, a significant increase over the 5184 zones in the X955 / QM851G. These numbers also far exceed the number of dimming zones in competing 4K miniLED LCD models from LG, Samsung and Sony. TCL claims the upgraded miniLED system can reach a peak brightness of 6500 nits. Also read: Review: 115" TCL X955 Max / QM891G

Still 4K

TCL is still not warming up to 8K, as the new flagship still features 4K resolution with a VA LCD panel. It is a wise choice considering that the 8K market has yet to gain any traction. TCL confirmed that the TV supports a 144Hz refresh rate with a 240Hz half-resolution mode, HDMI 2.1 with VRR and multi-HDR support (HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, Dolby Vision IQ). The 6.2.2-channel Dolby Atmos sound system has been developed in collaboration with Bang & Olufsen, and features Enhanced Dialogue Mode and BeoSonic technology. - "We're enthusiastic about the potential for this partnership to grow", said Stefan Streit, CMO of TCL EUBG. "By further integrating Bang & Olufsen's expertise, we hope to push the boundaries of home entertainment, potentially exploring more advanced sound systems and innovative features that bring an enhanced experience to our users." It still runs Google TV with access to the Google Play store plus integrated Chromecast and Google Assistant. Despite the advanced miniLED zone dimming system, it retains a sleek design with a very thin profile. - "Designed with both functionality and aesthetics in mind, the X11H Series offers a bezel-less luxury design and adjustable stand height to fit any setup. Available in 85'' and 98'' sizes, TCL continues to position itself as a leader in the large screen segment with the X11 Series," added TCL. The new flagship from TCL will be available only in 85 and 98 inches, with pricing and launch details to be announced later. At IFA 2024, TCL also announced the C765, a more affordable range of miniLED LCD TVs available in 55 to 85 inche, featuring Google TV and HDMI 2.1. See the table below for full specifications on both new TV ranges.
