Disney+ will soon get more expensive in the US. Before that happens, Disney+ is available for a discounted price of $2 / €2 / £2 per month for 3 months here.
Beginning October 17 in the US, Disney+ with ads will increase from $8 to $10 per month while the ad-free plan will increase from $14 to $16 per month. The annual ad-free plan is rising from $140 to $160.
Hulu is getting more expensive, too. The ad-supported plan will jump from $8 to $10 per month, and the annual plan from $80 to $100.
As for the "blockbuster" discount of $2/month for 3 months, as Disney refers to it, the streaming service did something similar last year before it raised prices, sending mixed signals about its pricing strategy. Disney pointed out that the discounted plan will allow you to see new titles such as Pixar's Inside Out 2, Marvel's Agatha All Along and more.
The discounted price is also offered in some European countries such as the United Kingdom and Spain for €2/month or £2/month here, until September 27.
Disney+ has not announced new price increases for the UK and other European countries.
Channel-like playlists
To justify the price increases in the US, Disney+ points to a collection of new "continuous playlists", basically TV channels in streaming form.
- "Playlists are the latest example of how we’re providing the best value and experience for our subscribers every time they open Disney+," said Alisa Bowen, President, Disney+. - "Whether it's news, kids’ content, popular genres, hit TV shows or blockbuster films, there will be something for everyone in a lean-back viewing experience based on seasonality and interest."
ABC News Live and a channel with preschool content were added on September 4 in the US, and 4 more will be added later this year: 'Seasonal Content', 'Epic Stories', 'Throwbacks' and 'Real Life'.
