Samsung unveils 2025 OLED TVs, 115" LCD TV, more matte screens

06 Jan 2025 | Rasmus Larsen |

At CES 2025, Samsung has unveiled the highlights of 2025 TV line-up, including the S95F, S90F and S85F OLED TVs, all coming in 83 inches, and even larger LCD TVs up to 115 inches.

S95F is the successor to last year's S95D. Like its predecessor, it features a matte panel but will in 2025 be offered in sizes up to 83 inches.

However, unlike S95D, which was exclusively QD-OLED, the 83-inch S95F will use a WOLED panel from LG Display. This was confirmed by the subpixel layout of the panel on display at CES. In other words, the panel lottery will this year extend to the flagship S95F.

There are still rumors about a 83-inch QD-OLED panel, which could go into S95F in some regions, but we will not confirmation on this until later. So, what is new for S95F? The smaller sizes will feature the improved and brighter 2025 QD-OLED panel, which Samsung Display claims can reach up to 4000 nits. However, we do not expect S95F to hit those peak brightness levels in its calibrated mode. Additionally, S95F supports a 165Hz refresh rate and is powered by the new NQ4 AI Gen3 video processor. S90F and S85F also use WOLED panels and they will be available in sizes ranging from 42 to 83 inches. However, the 42-inch model will not be available in all regions.

100" and 115" LCD TVs

Samsung is introducing even larger "QLED" LCD TVs in 2025, with the 115-inch QN90F (with a panel from TCL) and the 100-inch QN80F (with a panel from BOE). These new models will compete with TCL and Hisense, who have already found success with their ultra-large LCD offerings. QN90F will be available in sizes starting from 43 inches and will feature miniLED zone dimming. It also features the NQ4 AI Gen3 processor and a 165Hz refresh rate.

8K LCD goes ultra-premium

After discontinuing its most affordable QN7000 8K LCD range last year, Samsung is phasing out the QN8000 8K LCD range in 2025. However, Samsung will continue to offer two premium 8K "Neo QLED" ranges; QN900F and QN990F. QN990F will be available in sizes up to 98 inches, featuring an upgraded NQ8 AI Gen3 processor and, for the first time, a wireless version of Samsung's One Connect Box – similar to LG's M-Series OLED TVs. While we do not expect these new 8K LCD models to match OLEDs in picture quality, they come with a very sleek streamlined design.

More matte screens

After the introduction of matte coatings on The Frame and the 95-series QD-OLED TVs, Samsung is expanding matte finishes QN990F, QN900F and QN90F. The matte, or anti-glare, coating significantly reduces reflections but also results in a duller picture, with lower contrast and less vibrant colors. This is evident in the photo below of QN990F from Samsung's First Look event. Additionally, Samsung plans to integrate new AI features into its Tizen operating system and will later roll out further enhancements through a partnership with Microsoft's Copilot. We do not yet have specifications or an overview of all the different ranges comprising the 2025 line-up, but we are chasing information and will meet again with Samsung later this week.
