At CES 2025, Hisense has announced plans to launch even bigger TVs, unveiling a 136-inch RGB miniLED LCD TV to outdo TCL and a 136-inch microLED TV to challenge Samsung.
TCL made 98-inch LCD TVs affordable, but Hisense, the other major TV maker from China, is also making significant strides with its slightly larger 100-inch LCD TVs. In the US, Hisense claims to have secured the top spot for TVs sized 87 inches and larger, with a market share 15 times greater than in 2023. The Chinese brands are now leading the market for ultra-large TVs.
Once again, Hisense is looking to one-up the 115-inch 115X955 Pro launched by TCL last year, with the launch of the new 116-inch 116UX.
RGB miniLEDs, 10,000 nits, 97% BT.2020
The 116UX will be one of Hisense's first LCD TVs to feature a newly developed RGB miniLED backlight, which Hisense calls TriChroma. The company claims it can reproduce 97% of the BT.2020 color space – even surpassing QD-OLED.
- "Serving as a bridge between today’s MiniLED advancements and the next frontier of MicroLED, RGB Local Dimming Display. Technology redefines the category with unparalleled precision, efficiency, and performance. By meeting the demands of increasingly dynamic and immersive content, the 116-inch TriChroma LED TV ensures that MiniLED displays remain at the forefront of technological evolution," said Hisense.

Hisense described the system as incorporating "tens of thousands of RGB LED focused optical lenses", though the exact number of dimming zones was not disclosed. The TV is powered by the new Hi-View AI Engine X.
Additionally, 116UX is said to deliver up to 10,000 nits of peak brightness and features a built-in 6.2.2-channel speaker system. It supports HDR10, Dolby Vision IQ and IMAX Enhanced, and runs on Google TV – at least in North America. Still, it has a slim profile of less than 40mm.

Hisense's first microLED TV
After previously having showcased microLED prototypes, Hisense at CES 2025 announced plans to launch a 136-inch microLED TV on the consumer market the US this year.
Unlike miniLED, microLED is a self-emitting display technology, eliminating the need for an LCD panel since its LEDs are small enough to function as individual sub-pixels. It has 24.88 million microLEDs, i.e. 4K resolution (3840x2160x3 = 24,883,200).
Hisense said that it achieves 95% of the BT.2020 color space and up to 10,000 nits peak brightness, with a 1,000,000:1 native contrast ratio – far surpassing the 116UX LCD TV. It supports 120Hz, , VRR, Dolby Vision, HDMI 2.1, IMAX Enhanced, Filmmaker Mode, HDR10+ and more. It runs Vidaa OS.

Hisense went as far as to call microLED the "next display technology for consumers" and "the future of TV". The company will showcase two additional microLED TV sizes at CES. FlatpanelsHD will be back with more details soon.
As for its other TV ranges and smaller TVs, Hisense has planned a launch event for spring 2024.
The big question, of course, is the price, given that Samsung's microLED TVs are still prohibitively expensive. At the briefing, Hisense did not want to provide price estimates for either of the two big TVs.
