Panasonic debuts 2025 miniLED LCD TV with 2.5x more dimming zones

07 Jan 2025 | Rasmus Larsen |

Today at CES 2025, Panasonic has announced W95B, an upgraded miniLED LCD TV available in sizes ranging from 55 to 85 inches.

While Panasonic continues to rely on OLED technology for its flagship TVs, the company is trying to expand its presence in the LCD segment with a full range of models.

W95B is the most advanced LCD TV in the line-up for 2025, designed to compete with miniLED LCD models from the likes of Hisense, LG, Philips, Samsung, Sony and TCL. W95B succeeds last year's W95A.

More miniLED dimming zones

Panasonic says it has boosted "the number of backlight zones by over 2.5 times compared to last year depending on inch size". For reference, last year's 65-inch W95A had 192 dimming zones. Regardless of the math here (2.5 times more or 2.5 times as many?), the total number of dimming zones remains below 1000.

Instead of using quantum dots, Panasonic employs a phosphor-based miniLED backlight to expand the color gamut. W95B is powered by the HCX Pro AI MK II processor and now includes Dolby Vision IQ with Precision Detail, which can use the TV’s ambient light sensor. The TV supports up to 144Hz VRR with FreeSync over HDMI 2.1, and returns with Calman and ISFccc calibration.

Fire TV with Prime Video Calibrated Mode

Like Panasonic's 2025 OLED flagship, Z95B, W95B runs Fire TV with access to streaming apps and for the first time Prime Video Calibrated Mode, a feature first seen in Sony TVs. In Europe, W95B includes Panasonic’s Penta Tuner and comes with a different remote control compared to the US version. In the US, W95B features an ATSC 3.0 tuner.

Additional features include built-in Apple AirPlay and Home support as well as Alexa voice control. The 20W built-in subwoofer improved bass performance. The Panasonic W95B will be available later this year in Europe and the US in 55, 65, 75 and 85 inches, with pricing to be announced closer to launch. Additional 2025 LCD models will also be announced later.
