Disney+ will join Apple and Prime Video in offering movies in HDR10+, in addition to Dolby Vision.
Today at CES 2025 during its press event, the industry group behind HDR10+ announced that Disney+ plans to adopt HDR10+ for streaming, according to reports from MediaPlayNews and TheDesk who attended the presentation.
Disney has yet to reveal when viewers can expect its movies and series to appear in HDR10+, but the move is good news, especially for owners of Samsung TVs as these sets do not support the other premium HDR video format, Dolby Vision.
Disney+ already offers movies and series in HDR10 and Dolby Vision, as well as both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X IMAX Enhanced audio, giving viewers the option to select their preferred format.
Other HDR10+ developments
While Dolby Vision is the leading premium HDR video format, HDR10+ is starting to gain traction. Among streamers Amazon Prime, Apple TV+, Apple TV movies (rent/buy), Hulu and Paramount+ are also using HDR10+.
The industry group, HDR10+ Technologies, also provided an update on the HDR10+ ecosystem, highlighting the following recent developments:
Electronic Arts recently released Dragon Age: The Vailguard, the first EA title to support HDR 10+ Gaming
Intel confirmed that its latest ARC GPUs now support HDR10+ across nearly 30 products
Panasonic Avionics has certified its latest in-flight entertainment displays for HDR10+
