Samsung's 2025 soundbars will introduce Eclipsa Audio in addition to Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. The flagship Q990F gets a redesigned, smaller subwoofer.
Before CES, Samsung announced plans to launch its Dolby Atmos rival, Eclipsa Audio, in 2025 across TVs and soundbars. We now have more information on the first soundbars to support it.
- "We are proud to lead the industry with the integration of Eclipsa Audio into our 2025 TV and soundbar lineup," announced Taeyong Son, EVP, Head of R&D for Visual Display Business, Samsung, ahead of CES.
At CES 2025, FlatpanelsHD met with Google to hear Eclipsa Audio in action. We will report on this demonstration later, but one key takeaway is that Eclipsa will actually be much more available in the near future.
Q990F succeeds Q990D
Samsung's new 11.1.4-channel flagship soundbar system is the HW-Q990F, which comes with wireless rear speakers and a redesigned dual 8-inch 300W subwoofer, with one unit on each side, reaching down to 32Hz.
This new subwoofer is half the size of its predecessor, which we were not a fan of in our HW-Q990D review, but actually delivers better bass, claims Samsung.

At CES, Samsung told FlatpanelsHD that the upgraded Q-Symphony Pro system, which lets the soundbar and TV speakers play in unison, has been improved in two ways: HW-Q990F can use a newer Samsung TV's NPU while in its Q-Symphony mode to enhance dialogue, and you can now connect 3 additional wireless speakers, up from 2 last year.
We received a short demo at CES, and Q990F seemingly resembles Q990D in surround, power and bass, but it is hard to say for sure due to the noisy CES environment. Like last year's Q990D, it will feature HDMI 2.1 passthrough for 4K120, VRR, etc. Samsung has also added Roon Ready support.
Samsung's new high-end soundbar will go up against products such as the Sonos Arc Ultra and Sony Theatre Quad. We still don't know how much it will cost, but the predecessor was priced at $1800.
More 2025 soundbars
In addition, Samsung will this year launch the HW-QS700F, which is convertible, meaning that it supports both wall-mounted and tabletop setups, and that it will adapt its drivers for the situation to still deliver virtualized surround. It comes with the redesigned subwoofer too.
Later this year, Samsung will launch the HW-B750F and HW-B650F.
The new soundbars will also support Q-Symphony Pro, and at least QS700F – but likely also the two B series – will support Eclipsa Audio in addition to Dolby Atmos, although Eclipsa will also require a 2025 Samsung TV. More details will be released later.
