Despite not being shown on the show floors of CES 2025, a new LG wallpaper OLED TV with a wireless Zero Connect box won a CES Innovation Award. Here a first glimpse of the W5.
Remember 2017? LG introduced the W7, a stunningly thin OLED TV aptly nicknamed the wallpaper TV. It could mount flush to the wall using only magnets for a very minimalist look.
Unfortunately, the LG WX in 2020 marked the end of the wallpaper TV line as LG discontinued the concept. All four iterations shared one drawback: they relied on a bulky soundbar housing all the electronics.
The return of the wallpaper TV?
At CES 2025, a 77-inch W5 earned a CES Innovation Award, yet surprisingly this was the only mention of it. LG has made no formal announcement and the W5 was not exhibited anywhere on the show floors.

When asked about the W5, LG representatives would neither confirm nor deny its existence. However, the CES Innovation Award description provided some insight:
- "The 4K 77-inch W5 is the culmination of many years of LG technical knowhow. Less than ½” thick, it blends into your wall without visible AV wires. This is achieved without compromise, as the TV offers LG’s best OLED picture quality, featuring a brighter more colorful OLED display capable of gaming (up to 144Hz with VRR). It includes LG’s most advanced α11 AI Processor inside a Zero Connect Box that wireless sends your AV connections to the TV, eliminating clutter and freeing TV placement. The W5 is the perfect TV, offering the best of what is possible in a TV," wrote LG.
For context, LG's 'Gallery' G-series OLED TV is 1.1 inches thick. The standout detail here is that W5 uses the wireless Zero Connect box, also featured in M5, for a clutter-free setup where all devices, including game consoles, can be placed out of sight.
What is a CES Innovation Award?
The inclusion of W5 in the CES Innovation Awards is unlikely to be a mistake by CES, as LG is the one who has submitted the details to the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) for consideration.
- "The CES Innovation Awards® program is open to any individual, organization or authorized agent who manufactures, designs, engineers or promotes consumer technology products. Product submitted must be available in the market for the first time after April 1, 2024 or must be projected to be available in the market by April 1, 2025," explains the CTA (emphasis ours).
In other words, W5 was, at least at some point, intended to launch as part of LG's 2025 OLED TV line-up, alongside the officially announced B5, C5, G5 and M5 ranges.
Given the current lack of details, it is possible LG has decided to delay or even cancel the W5. Still, this development confirms that LG is seriously considering bringing back the wallpaper OLED TV.
