Amazon's latest Fire TV system update removes the option to hide pre-installed apps. The ability to hide apps on other user profiles is also no longer available.
This change is currently rolling out to the 1st Gen Fire TV Stick 4K running Fire OS 6 and the 2nd Gen Fire TV Stick Max running Fire OS 8.
The update is expected to gradually reach all Fire TV models over time.
No apps can be hidden
The implication of the update is that Amazon's own pre-installed apps, as well as partner apps that have been pre-installed through paid agreements, can no longer be hidden.
Additionally, the update affects apps that you manually install:
- "It's now no longer possible to hide any apps on Fire TV devices. If you have multiple user profiles, each using a different set of apps, all users will now have all apps installed on the device present," reported AFTVNews
This update follows other recent user-hostile changes to the Fire TV interface such as full-screen ads and screensaver ads.
