Comcast's Super Bowl broadcast: Dolby Vision & Atmos, but not 4K

07 Feb 2025 | Rasmus Larsen |

Comcast will continue to market its 1080p-upscaled signal as 4K. On the other hand viewers will get both Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos this year.

In the US, Comcast will air Super Bowl LIX in Dolby Vision, with an expanded color gamut and luminance range, along with Dolby Atmos immersive audio for the first time. The broadcast will be available to Xfinity TV customers on X1 and the Xfinity Stream app.

Outside the US, the Super Bowl will be streamed in 1080p HDR on DAZN.

Upscaled to 4K

Fox Sports is capturing the game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs in 1080p HDR, which will be upscaled to 4K before transmission – essentially the same process your 4K TV would perform on its own. Comcast brands this as "Enhanced 4K," with the enhanced part referring to Dolby Vision HDR. The company added that its signal is "only seconds behind the game unfolding in New Orleans". - "With the clearest picture quality and the most realistic audio possible, we’re offering customers a viewing experience they can’t get anywhere else for the biggest live sporting event of the year. Plus, we’re delivering it as fast as possible over our state-of-the-art network so customers can feel like they’re witnessing every exciting moment at the same time as the fans in the Superdome," said Vito Forlenza, VP of Sports Entertainment, Comcast.
