Philips TVs now also support Netflix's HDR10+

15 Apr 2025 | Rasmus Larsen |

Netflix has started streaming in HDR10+ but it is a gradual rollout. Philips says that their TV models from 2022 and onwards are now ready.

The announcement from Netflix came in March, meaning that Netflix now offers content in three HDR formats: HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision.

Netflix said that the TV must support both HDR10+ and the AV1 video codec. If the TV supports both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, Netflix will stream in Dolby Vision. Currently, about half of Netflix's HDR catalog is available in HDR10+.

Netflix HDR10+ on Philips TVs

Last week, Samsung announced that it 2025 models support Netflix's HDR10+, with older TVs to gain access later. Meanwhile, Philips said that Netflix's HDR10+ is supported on 2022 models and later. - "Philips models not having Dolby Vision supports HDR10+ from Netflix on all Ultra HD models from 2022 and onwards," Philips wrote to Flatpanels. These are typically 8- and 7-series Philips TVs running Google TV or Titan OS. Check the TV database. HDR10+ is especially beneficial on LCD TVs because it enables the LED backlight to adjust from scene to scene based on the dynamic metadata in HDR10+.

HDR10+ building momentum

With Netflix's backing, HDR10+ is starting to establish itself as a real alternative to Dolby Vision. Amazon Prime Video was a launch partner and Apple added support for HDR10+ in 2022. Disney+ will begin streaming in HDR10+ later in 2025.
