New Xbox remote play feature lets you play in every room

Microsoft has announced that it is adding a remote play feature to its apps for Smart TVs, Fire TV devices and Meta Quest headsets.

Xbox remote play is now available in web browsers via xbox.com/remoteplay, and it will soon be available in TV apps as well. It mirrors PlayStation's Remote Play feature.

- "In addition to streaming from the web, players will soon be able to access Xbox remote play on more devices, including supported Samsung Smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV devices, and Meta Quest headsets," announced Microsoft.

In addition, the Xbox app is launching on LG Smart TVs later this year.

In other words, you can stream games installed on your Xbox Series X or Series S console on other devices in your home. This is different from xCloud, which streams games from Microsoft’s servers over the internet. Xbox remote play will also work with backward compatible Xbox and Xbox 360 games.

Microsoft now also allows Game Pass Ultimate subscribers to stream select games they own – not just Game Pass titles – on Xbox Series X, Series S and Xbox One consoles. You just need to install the April 2025 system update on your console.

Previously, streaming games from Microsoft’s servers was only supported via TV apps – not Xbox consoles. Microsoft says over 100 games are currently supported, with more on the way. See the full list here. To get started, go to My games & apps > Full library > Owned Games. From there, you can instantly start any game marked with a cloud icon without having to install it first to the console.
